PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY

Millions of people are suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction, yet for most, the disease goes unidentified and untreated. Statistics say that 1 out of every 5 people (of every age) suffer from some type of pelvic floor dysfunction at some time in their life. Over 25 million Americans suffer from urinary incontinence alone or involuntary loss of urine. And it is not just a “women’s“ disorder; men and children can have pelvic floor dysfunction as well.

Pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a wide range of problems that occur when the muscles of the pelvic floor are weak, tight, or there is an impairment of the sacroiliac joint, low back, coccyx and/or hip joint. The tissues surrounding the pelvic organs may have increased or decreased sensitivity and/or irritation resulting in pelvic pain. Many times, the underlying cause of pelvic pain is difficult to determine. These conditions may be due to infections (usually undiagnosed), pregnancy or childbirth, insidious onset, poor posture from chronic low back or SI dysfunction, trauma (e.g. bad fall), or a result of surgery. The pelvic floor is made up of muscles and other tissues that form a sling from the pubic bone to the tailbone. They assist in supporting the abdominal and pelvic organs, and help to control bladder, bowel and sexual activity. In Anatomy Rehab we encourage treatment to be multidisciplinary and holistic. We offer help with stress management, nutritional counseling, specialized physiotherapists and specialized Personal Trainers (Le fit Mom).

Our expertise

PEDIATRIC PHYSIOTHERAPY

It’s undeniable, children are unquestionably different from adults. From their personalities and mannerisms, all the way down to their physiology and even their anatomy, children are unique. What’s more is that they’re always growing and changing. These changing bodies are what generate the need for personalized therapeutic interventions, adapted for the developing child.

Pediatric physiotherapy is a broad term for the treatment of babies, toddlers, children, and youth from 0-18 years of age by specially trained therapists. Anatomy is proud to provide personalized physiotherapy services to pediatric clients.

What does a visit look like?

All treatment begins with an hour-long assessment in one of our private treatment rooms. During this time, we will discuss your child’s medical history, their needs, create goals, and perform a full assessment of range, strength, balance, and whatever else may be relevant to your child’s condition. From these findings, a personalized treatment plan is created and reviewed in detail with your therapist, who will answer any questions you may have.

All subsequent treatments will last 30 minutes and will be spent one on one with your child’s therapist providing treatment. No machines, no assistants, no switching therapists. Our one-on-one hands on treatments allow you and your child to build a trusting relationship with your therapist to provide the best quality treatment possible.

What might we work on?

Following our assessment of your child’s condition, a personalized treatment plan will be created specifically for them. This treatment plan will involve hands-on treatment on behalf of our physiotherapist as well as exercises and activities to perform at home. Depending on the relevance to your child’s condition and needs, treatment may include work targeted towards:

  • Posture
  • Movement and range of motion
  • Strength and endurance
  • Agility
  • Gross or fine motor skills
  • Balance and coordination
  • Functional activities
  • Activity modification

And much more…
